Just like New Year’s Eve which is celebrated all around the world, Chinese New Year is celebrated by 20 percent of the people around the world. It is an important festival in China and Chinese people celebrate it with a lot of enthusiasm. People of all age groups wear new clothes and celebrate it with a grand feast comprising if Chinese delicacies.

 

New clothes are considered to be auspicious and are significant for protection against evil spirits. Mostly the younger generation is seen to be excited about the new clothes; mostly the people buy new clothes but in most of the cases the elders of the family gift the new cloths to the members of their family. Chinese New Year is a fresh start to a New Year of new hopes, aspirations and dreams and wearing new attire is the best way to start this year.

 

What should one wear on Chinese New Year?

 

Being a Chinese, it is best if one wears the traditional Chinese outfits. The Chinese outfits give quite a traditional feel and make the festival quiet a joyous one.

 

There are different Chinese outfits that have been these for ages and are even popular today, so here are a few Chinese outfits that you can wear this Chinese New Year:

 

• Tang Suit- Originally the tang suit is a traditional dress belonging to the Tang dynasty but in today’s modern world the tang suit is a combination of the jacket belonging to the Qing dynasty and the western suit. A lot of Chinese martial arts performing people wear the tang suit. It has an upturned collar with Chinese buttons and is usually made of brocade which looks quite rich and luxurious. This kind of a suit is perfect for men and now days it can be easily modified according to one’s requirements.

 

• Qipao- Traditionally the Qipao belonged to the Qing dynasty and referred to a conservative dress, which was loose and straight. With modernisation the Qipao has evolved, it is still known to as the robe chinoise longue but it has become westernised and is quite tight-fitting; but what the dress still has is the frog buttons and the straight collar. The embroidery designs can vary from flowers, birds and the phoenixes.

 

• Hanfu- It is known to be the clothing that belongs to the Han Dynasty; the traditional Hanfu outfit has a shirt and a skirt. The skirt is long and is somewhat like the Japanese Kimono; it looks elegant and comes in fresh and bright colours. If you want to look your traditional best with a modern touch then this is the right outfit to wear.
